Carrie Underwood stars in 'The Sound of Music'

Carrie Underwood will star as Maria Von Trapp in a live television production of The Sound of Music which will air on NBC as a three-hour special next year around the holidays.

The classic stage and film musical (in which Julie Andrews played the role) tells the true story of an Austrian nun in World War II who leaves the convent to become governess to a widower's seven singing children.
