A 9-year-old boy in Hudson Falls, NY is being banned from his library's reading club contest because he keeps winning it... every year.
The fifth-grader has just won the reading club contest for the fifth year in a row and the librarian wants him banned from the contest. She says he ‘hogs’ the annual “Dig into Reading” contest and needs to step aside to let other kids have a chance.
The boy read 63 books for this summer’s event and has won it every year since he started it in kindergarten.
His total so far is an impressive 373 books at, or above, his reading level.
Rather than congratulating him, the librarian is trying to get him booted from the contest. She even considered changing the rules so the winner is drawn from a hat rather than chosen by the number of books that have been read.
The 5th grader says it’s not about the prizes-- it’s about being the top reader.
His little brother has now won second place the last two years in a row, too.
